Optimum salinity for lobster ranges from 29 to 35 ppt. Acclimation to salinities outside this range is possible if other conditions are favorable. For example, survival can occur at 11 ppt at 40° F, or at 26 ppt at 70° F. The upper tolerance is at 45 ppt while survival at lower salinities is enhanced if the temperature is low.

The critical control points, at which alarming occurs, can be adjusted by the operator.
